As everybody knows it's time for Rolang Garros tour. It is a great event in France, very famous and kind.
One of the partners of Roland Garros had an original idea: organize a virtual tennis tour. It's a good example of e-communication for young people.

As we have a specific background, we don't think about the same things and we always have different answers and referencies. This diversity is really rich and source of creation and discussion.
With a student blogosphere, you can learn more about concepts and technics of publishing (add links, pictures...), have more ideas.
I think this activity has a positive effect. It's fun to write about subjects and to publish it. And it's a good way to look for news, to keep contact with internet. The blogosphere is a special universe, you nearly feel obliged to publish an original content to be read.

Three professions using e-communications skills:
Communication manager: to prepare an event, you can organize a visual conference to check all points. During the event, you can podcast the meeting for example to distribute to journalists or employees.

Internet project manager: before the implementation of a web site, you need to test it (link, color, quality of pictures...). With a webcam conversation, you can make a test with some users.

Intranet manager: If you work in a big group with subsidiaries overseas you need to recolt information for headquarter. To write an article, you can interview an employee about an internal event for example with a webcam conversation.

The big difference is that the teacher is not physically with you in the class.
But the student can see on the screen his teacher and ear him as a TV program.
Finally you have a direct relation with the teacher, you can speak more than in a traditional classroom. You are more concentred and efficient in a short time I think.
Moreover you can do exercises on line and the teacher can check and correct it in real time.
But with our system, we can't create a real virtual group. That is the teacher can't have conversation with many students. We can't debate for example.

To be sincere before being in Celsa, I didn't really know about podcasting. I discovered the concept with Loukouman who explained us what it is and how it works. So, I started to look for podcasts on radio web site but I thought it was difficult to download. In fact, I really discovered podcasting with Bob because I was obliged to find podcasts on internet and to create my self a podcast!
I was afraid of Itunes and in fact it's very practical. But it's not easy to use Audacity and to obtain a good result.

Today I am very interesting by podcasts and I would like to podcast everything. I become addicted to podcast! Thank you Bob.

M-shopping gives the possibility to customers to buy with their mobile phone and also to buy from everywhere...
This new way of consuming applies some "killer apps" principles.

Outsource to the customer: the customer don't need anymore saler to find a product and to pay for it.
Treate each customer as a market segment of one: it allows to maximise the offers' personalization. With our profile companies know your age, sexe, profession, preferences.
Replace rude interfaces with learning interfaces: it avoids you some unpleasant times as waiting in a store to pay... and I think it's necessary to implement learning interfaces to simplify purchasing.
Destroy your value chain: it could suppress the retailer, store could be useless. Already many companies sell only with internet as E-bay.
Hire the children: it's interesting because young people have facilities with new technologies and it's possible they become m-shopping consumers quickly. They already do lot of things with their mobile phone, have habits to use it.

The advantages are various as freedom, easily, flexibility. The customers can buy from everywhere and at any time.
But I think it will reinforce individuality and decrease a part of social life. For lonely people, the only moment they speak in a day it's when they do shopping. And it could separate people who don't have a mobile phone or an internet access on it. Moreover with this way of consuming, people are more and more considered as only consumers.

I have many sources of information and I use it depending the kind of research. My first reflex is to use a search engine as Google to receive a large choice of answers.

Concerning blogs, Technorati is a very good way to find blogs about a specific subject.
If I need to know more about concepts or technical information I prefer ask Wikipedia which is a good tool.
Others sources are the Journal du Net which is web site completly about internet, click companies, new technologies, new ideas of advertising and so on... And I sometimes read newspapers/books and watch a TV program on Direct 8 which is 8-FI.
Other strategy? I try to do my best with my brain!

E-learning strenghts and wiknesses

I think it's a good process for teaching, it is an alternative system to reduce distance, costs and create learning interfaces. It is a good combination with traditional teaching.
In fact you can learn with your computer and software at your own rythm. You don't need to go to school, you can stay at home. E-learning can be on line or not; you can work with a cd-rom.
For example, it's very practical for Australian children who live in desert. They can't go to school because of distance but they have class on line together with a connected teacher.
Or it is useful for a company which has employees overseas and has to train them.
But there are drawbacks also technic aspects. It's neccesary to have a good informatic system: right system to read cd-rom, to hear and to speak without echo, a good connection to internet.
This morning it was my first e-learning experience. It was strange to see teacher on the screen but I felt as he was here in the class. It was an original way to pass an exam.
Creative suggestions for e-learning: to have webcam conversation with different English people to improve understanding, to make role play with 2 students and others listen to and notice mistakes. Except MSN messenger I don't find software for e-learning...

A hard question... longtail marketing...

One longtail marketing strategy: it is a difficult question. The longtail is a potential market based on distribution and sales opportunities created by internet. One of the key factor is the store cost. To have a store is expensive and space is limited. While internet can reduce costs (no more store, big choice of products). Amazon and Mister Good Deal are good examples of longtail strategy with only online stores; they just have to manage stock and logistic.
Longtail marketing strategy allows to build market on products which make low sales or low profits. That's why the Da Vinci Code, a very successfull book, doesn't need a longtail marketing strategy. It's a bestseller and its sales volume can return on stores' high costs.

TIVO: it is a digital video recorder and a brand. It is a consumer video device which allows users to capture television programming to internal hard disk storage for later viewing.
Time shifting: it is the process to record TV shows to a hard disk and to be viewed at a more convenient time.
Pay-on-demand TV: you can buy a program and see it but only on time. Free and TF1 propose that service.
Streaming media: it is media based on streaming information as radio or TV on line. You don't need to download programs. Direct 8 is a channel TV and it is possible to watch it live.
Podcasting: it is a process to distribute audio or video files. It is different of streaming because you have to download file. But you can listen to it when you need with your mp3 key for example. Ipod proposes a practical tool to look for any kind of podcast.

Rights and e-communication

Intellectual property: according to Wikipedia, that concerns people who create, invent artistic works as movies, musics, books... And laws protect these artistic works with copyright, patent... It is a difficult question because on internet you can share easily and freely. If you share your ideas it is generous but you risk to be victimed of "thief". When people share freely their technics (as how to use Audacity) it is a big benefit for community so I think it is a good thing. But give freely an illegal movie copy it's different.
DRM: I think it is about individual rights but on internet; we can speak of digital rights because of actions made on internet by people. For example, when you buy something on internet, you need to be protected as in real life. A French web site about consuming on internet can help us about it.

Click and mortar company: a company which mixes business in real stores and on internet. At the beginning, Nouvelles Frontières sells travels in agencies and today too on internet.

Pure dotcom company: a company which is only present on internet to make profits or give a service freely or nearly. Coup de Theatre can be a good example; it sells tickets for theatre at low cost and at last time only on internet.

Monetize an internet model: I think it is a web site which works very well on internet (very good audience). Because of its success this web site can become a model and be monetized. For me, the best example is Google. But Meetic could be an example because it's a freely service even if you have more and more adversitings.

My first webcam experience

Today I have tried the webcam on msn and it's fantastic. My home has been visited by my contact with my webcam and I could visit his home. It was a great moment! And I have had a conversation with the webcam and seen my friends and their baby.
But it is not usely to see my face on the screen and to speak through the computer. It is practical and nice. We have shared a good moment.
Thanks Olivier for that because I thought it was terrible to connect a webcam and in fact it's very easy (no driver...), I spendt only 2 minuts!

Interdependence

The notion of interdependence on internet is a very important one and it's not easy to explain.
More and more, people are allowed to participate in web sites. You can give your opinion about an event, your advice about a product or a movie.
Interdependence is the possibility to participate, to contact others people all around the world, to create communities. If you open up your boundaries you can live a short of social experience and meet different people, discover others ways of life.
I think Agoravox is a good example of collective intelligence: it is a citizen media based on participation and you can write as a journalist about actuality.
Another example, Familoo: it is for families who want to recreate on line their communities, to share moments together as celebration of birthdays.
Marmiton is a web site in part based on the participation of net surfers (sharing of recipes, forum...).

Few months ago, I known blogs but I wasn't really interesting by it, I considered it only as private diaries. Since I had my blog I became very curious about blogs and bloggers, I discovered a real universe.
Blogs are very various and are not limited to the privacy diary. Bloggers want to share specific experience and create discussions. It is a real source of creativity.

Many many uses of blog:
"Prof! c'est le pied": a teacher tells about her daily life in high school

"Petistic": it's an amazing blog about pets
"Grand Magasin": it's a French blog with photographies about daily life

"Boing boing": the title of this blog is "a directory of wonderful things"

Today we speak about the blogosphere: it means the community of bloggers and a specific network on the web. Many blogs are densely interconnected: bloggers read others' blogs, link to them, reference them in their own writing, and post comments on each others' blogs. Bloggers have invented their own culture.

A proof: Technorati which is a search engine for searching blogs.
The blogosphere is real social phenomenon because of interconnectivity of blogs and influence of some bloggers who are reconized as opinion leaders. So, blogs about influent blogs are created as les influenceurs.

Vivin is a French man who wants to meet Clint Eastwood (it's his american dream) and each week he explains his discovery of America.

Impermanence : As web content can be changed very quickly and frequently, Internet is considered as an instantaneous media. Web content is also instable and sometimes it is difficult to check information or to find a sheet you read before.

Nouvel Observateur is a famous french newspaper which presents last news, the content is changed regularly.
Google news: it presents information uninterrupted, latest news up dated each moment
Hoaxbuster: sometimes net surfers receive e-mail transmitting false and deliberately deceptive informations. Hoaxbuster alerts net surfers about it.

Transparency: Internet gives the possibility to publish content easily and quickly via web sites or blogs. Net surfers can know everything about companies, famous people. Internet can be the starting point of a scandal. I think transparency can be wanted or not: a company can decide to be honest and explain how its products are manufactured or someone can be victim of indiscretion about his life.

Mc Donald's gives informations about its menus and chicken disease.
"Cyber crèches" in Issy les Moulineaux a town near Paris: parents can see their children and check all is ok. They are less worried because they know where are children and what they are doing and with whom.

Benefits of an open-mind: I think it is concerned people who use services offer by web sites. By changing their habits they realized that internet is a fantastic media. They win time, they do many things at home and discover a new field: it is a kind of rewards.

I have found a podcast on VOA Voice of America especially for people who want to improve their english. It is called "special english".
This is a 30-minute daily news in a simplified form of American English, made easier for those learning the language. It is a perfect tool for me!
You can download the podcast and listen to the program when you want in transports for example.

The Google question

At the begining, Google was created by two students from Stanford to help them in their research. They weren't satisfied by existing search engines and they need an efficient tool to create a data base.
So, they invented Google which uses a new technology. It is an informatic program which scans all internet sheets, many times per day. Internet sheets are filed and indexed with key words. The classification is objective and not based on web site audience.
So the results of research are more objective, strictly in relation with the key words and complet.
Google became a success because it was only a window with a free search engine. Its competitors proposed many advertisings and results weren't very good.
For two years, Google has decided to sell commercial links and advertisings on the results sheets. But the advertising's presentation is the same for every company because Google didn't want results of research and advertising were confused.
And Google is the only one to control this technology and it can sell it.
That's why it works.
Today, Google becomes a reference; everybody uses it to research on Internet information.
